Congrats, Andre!

Posted by DAVE: Let's all raise a toast to Andre Agassi, who will be inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame, this Saturday (July 9). In addition to winning eight Grand Slam singles titles and becoming the consummate sportsman, he founded and continues to lead the Andre Agassi Foundation for Education, which is working to dynamically improve the quality and impact of public education.

Andre, we're both bald and middle-aged. We're both educators. We both strive to be good guys. And we both love tennis. (On second thought, after reading your memoir Open, maybe I love tennis more than you do?) This post is all in your honor. And I hope Steffi Graf delivers an introduction that's even half as awesome as the one you delivered on her behalf back in 2004. The story you shared that day about the chalkboard still chokes me up. You're a class act, Agassi, a class act indeed. Congratulations!

  1. Dave, I wasn't aware of this post until my friend Matt emailed me and said, "How did you NOT get to write the post about Andre?!" :-) I'm guessing we'd both go down fighting that we're Agassi's No. 1 fan.

Nice post and lovely photo. I'm glad we haven't posted for a while simply because Andre's mug gets to rest atop our blog for that much longer.

Also, I couldn't agree more about the speech Andre gave when Steffi was inducted into the Hall of Fame. Years ago I was reading a really long article about Andre that referenced that speech so I went online to find it. I was WOWed. It said a lot about her, of course, but it said so much about him as well. It made me love him all the more.

    Congrats, Andre!
