Posted by BESS: FIRST SET - The men's final is on, with Djokovic winning the first set on the first break point of the entire set. This, given the fact that until game 10 (the final game of the set), Nadal had been hitting 91 percent of his first serves. To serve that way and lose the set? Yeesh. High quality tennis so far, and fairly evenly matched. We'll see how the second set goes...
Right now, Dave must be thrilled. And I am a little down.
SECOND SET - Wow. Nadal doesn't lose sets 6-1. That is, uh, I mean, he just did. I'm a little at a loss for words. Nadal was completely off his game in this second set. And every time Djokovic has had a break point opportunity, he's capitalized. Nadal hasn't even had a single break point.
Set three starts now. Let's just hope there's a set four. :-(
THIRD SET - And just like that. Nadal breaks Djokovic twice and wins the third set 6-1. Djokovic's level of play has dropped. And Nadal's has improved. McEnroe just told us to "sit back and relax" now that there's at least a fourth set. Relax? Ha. Practicing my shadow boxing during Nadal's service games to burn off energy!
FOURTH SET - Similar to the first set, Djokovic breaks Nadal to go up 5-4 and serves for the Championship. Nadal gave it a go, taking Djok to 40-30 in that final game, but Djokovic kept the pressure on, and Nadal's last shot sailed long.
Djokovic beats Nadal, 6-4, 6-1, 1-6, 6-3 for his first Wimbledon title.
Djokovic fell to the ground, then, inexplicably, ate some of the grass (this gluten-free diet makes you do weird things). Then tossed all his racquets to the crowd.
Djokovic has certainly found all the answers against Nadal this year, beating him five times in six months. And tomorrow he becomes the #1 men's player. An amazing weekend for Djokovic. "A couple of good days in the office," he said during the trophy ceremony.
I've got to give credit where it's due, even though it pains me. Congrats, Nole.
Trying to watch bits and pieces between church, brunch and heading out to a family gathering. Djok must have been on fire early? Nadal is leading 4-1 in the third. Looks like it will go to four sets, maybe five. FYI, my 78 year-old mother just said, unprompted, that Rafa "looks mean." LOL!
ReplyDeleteYAY!!!!!!! So excited Novak won! And I want one of those rackets he threw into the stands.
ReplyDeleteYeah, yeah. To counter your mother's comment, Francie sent me an unsolicited text during the match that read, "That Serb is pretty cocky." Reminder: Unsolicited. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHahaha! Let's call a truce. It's been a fun tournament. Can't wait for the US Open!
